FRENCH GRENADIER GUARDS WATERLOO

Hi

Have been pondering about the hat 1/32nd French Elites in greatcoats to be converted. Between the boxed sets there are quite a large number of poses.

The French Imperial Guard at Waterloo are depicted in greatcoats in many drawings/paintings, so the only real difference is the headress. I have already found a suitable head/bearskin for the Chasseurs of the Imp Guard, but cant find a suitable Grenadier head/bearskin with the front plate in plastic . Any sugestions? The Airfix versions are ok, but the heads/bearskins are not quite big enough!

One possible suggestion/request is a Conversions Pack by hat - mainly made up of alternative heads/headress ? What do you think? If the heads have a spike under the neck then it would be easy to drill a hole in the donor body and slot the spare head into place with a splodge of super glue.

Any ideas most welcome and food for thought with other modellers/converters

You could buy lots of boxes of AIP Imperial Artillery and lob the heads of those!!!

Don't laff, I've done it to make a small unit of AIP Grenadiers.

The guns went over to the Spanish and US army.

A Napoleonic head pack would be great

Ther'are bearskin/heads off helmet soldiers. I think it would be a good solution. They have a lott of
spear parts.

Dave have you seen the Dulcop set? Not the greatest set but if your just looking for the heads you might be able to find some cheap?
Other then that all I can think of is the Airfix set You already mentioned and said was to small so forget about the 1/35 ESCI set.
Maybe there is a metal option some where out there or you could try some 2 part putty and make your own.

thanks Fish, maybe the Airfix heads with some milliput added to bulk them up a bit?

Or, if you are stuck on plastic, you could use the Italeri 6883 French Infantry set. Each has four Grenadiers that will work (perhaps with a bit of "extra" done to them). Otherwise, you are relegated to metal heads from Alexander's Toy Soldiers (50 Pence ea.), the owner, Nik, is an outstanding fellow, by the way. There's also the exceptional heads and bearskins from Historex! Or, if desperate, Timpo French Napoleonic (they may have wanted o be French, but are uniformed more like Grenadiers, Wurttemberg Royal Foot Guard 1808-13). Finally, if you are not oppossed to extensive putty-work, HaT's 9308 Wurttemberg Grenadiers might do.

Sans guff,

George

Dear George,

the Timpo French were wrongly dressed in the Royal uniform of the post Napoleonic period, a mistake by the original sculpter.

But you are right they do look like the Wurttemberg Royal Foot Guard.

Whilst I have always had a fondness for the Timpo Figures their utility is limited in todays more accurate market.

Have you guys checked Ken Cliffe's site? He has some metal heads Chapeau Bras, fatigue hats, and Grenadier bearskins. I've seen conversions with Hat figures and they are a pretty good fit.
