There was a post, I think by Wayne below that caught my eye. Accessories is something I think that can be done, so go ahead and post some ideas for accessories here that we can chew on.
Hi H - ideas for acessories: broken cart, stack of muskets, cooking fire, ammunition boxes, stretcher and bearers, length of fence or wall, gate, blasted tree stump. Regards 9th
Battle field scatter would be a Great idea. Dead and wounded soldiers and horses along with broken cannons and limbers and overrun defensive piostions are all cool in my book. I,d also like to see lots of other battle field scatter like hats backpacks muskets drums and anything else left behind in a route.
I,d also like to see sets of extra parts for conversions. Maybe a set of just extra parts. Lots of extra head would be great but without hats. Maybe include some extra hats also from sets already released but not on there heads just extra hats.
As far as the heads go I,d like to see some stand out type of faces. Old,young, bald, fat, bandaged wounded, mustache, beard ect... extra parts like muskets and swords could also be included. I really wish Hat did there figures with seperate arms it would avoid figure blocking and extra arms could be added to these sets for more conversion work.
A supply train would be great also and would right in with a camp scene. Mule packs,Sappers, enginners Ambulances with surgons and strecher bearers. Walking wounded, prisoners under guard. limbers, field forges, pontoon waggons supply waggons cantoniers.
So many ideas I could go on and on but I,m just giving you food for thought, I,m sure it,ll be a long time before we see any of this kinda stuff if ever???
There are so many figures still to be made which brings us to our other endless wish list!!!
Chad, Chevaux de frise can be made pretty easy. I make mine from small sticks and branches and double ended tooth picks. Just drill out a pretty straight brach about the length and with the spaceing you want with a fine drill bit just a slight touch smaller then the tooth picks and stick them trough. I leave the branch in its natural wood state but after I push the tooth picks through I paint them a brown color closest to the brach color but I leave the tips there natural wood color to make it look like they were cut and sharpened at the points. They come out looking pretty cool and really cheap to make as many as you want.
Just be careful not to drill your hand or impale your self on the toothpicks these little buggers can be pretty sharp.
Whoa there! Should we try and define accessories first?
I don't think a plank bridge would fall in the accessory category, nor would dead horses or dead men. These would be a set on their own. Actually right now, I'm thinking that each new action set would contain a dead guy, that would be the last pose in the 6 poses - it would metaphorically be the last word in an "action" set.
Accessories would be things like weapons, camp items, organic items, or maybe natural inorganic items, detritus of a battlefield, etc.
DO NOT put a dead body in action sets!!! Marching if you have to.Worse idea ever. Extra heads ,hats, arms and ammo. I want top hats plain old heads. heads for Swedes,Danes, Poles,Cossacks,Tartars,Hessian Chevau-legers,Krakus,and other Cavarly units. Plus a variety of Bicorns. Maybe stumps, walls and hedgesc would be good.
@Anth, why should the dead guy be in the marching set? The marching set would only be for marching figures and the dead guy can be in the action set, which is basically the all purpose set.
Agree, would love to see a dead guy in the action sets - after all, guys get killed in battle. Gamers could use them as markers.
As far as accessories are concerned, scenerie is always great for those who have neither the time or talent to make it. I agree the discards that litter a battlefield accumulates would be great.
The old Marx sets included everything from drums, broken wagon wheels, to rocks, dead horses, dead trees and stumps.
In their Fort Apache and Western sets they included wells, woodpiles, blacksmith shops and fires, wood ovens, the list goes on.
Conte throws in some generic barrels and sandbags.
I still think Barzso has come closest to achieving what old Louis Marx gave us.
I don,t think the action set in the best place for the dead and wounded either??? The poses are limited in that set already. I think maybe in the command set or a set of there own would be a better place for them. How about a set of just wounded figures and have like 3 dead and 3 wounded? Or 2 dead 2 getting wounded and 2 walking wounded maybe on a crutch,or bandaged arms heads legs ect...
I also don,t like the standing at attension figure included in the action set??? How is that action? He should be in the marching set in my opinion.
And back to the action set, how about more action in the action set??? How about a running figure or 2? I,m sure they troops didn,t walk away when they were routed. I,d rather see a kneeling or standing to repel figure then the standing at attension figure, at least I can use them to form a square. Just my 2 cents!
I also feel you need more action in the action set ditto Fish's comments. I also want the standing at attention in the marching set. How is dead action. Ok I'm just am not a lover of the marching set that's why I think thats a good place to put a dead guy on 1 slot and then marching then an accessorie then marching then a tree stump. Sure for huge armies and wargaming people like marching I understand your/their reasons, I don't like them. I really like the command and the variety in them so that's why dead in the marching set.
I agree with FISH and Anth, more action in the action sets!!
The Standing at Attention pose shouldn't be in there ,it should be in one of the other sets, if it is required at all:) This pose is the reason I won't be getting into HaT SYW, as the action set isn't and watching a recent documentary on 'Fredrick the Great' has just informed me that the Prussians fought everyone, so if I don't buy the Prussians there is no point in buying the rest of them:(
A dead guy shouldn't be in the action set for the simple reason that anyone that buys multiples to make up a firing line will end up with a pile of dead guys as well. Example- 10 sets will give you 30 dead guys! I don't mind a dead guy pose but it should be in the set you buy the least of, the command set would be the one for it.
I like the idea of running figures in action sets and don't mind if a dead guy gets tossed into the command set - I'd just like to see some dead and wounded so I don't have to hack up some good guys making some. As for the attention guys, no problem with them, either. As much of a soldier's life is spent standing in formation waiting, even moreso in the pre-20th century on the battlefield. I don't know, maybe in the command set? But that's crowding the command set.
I like the above definition of "action". My sense of Napoleonic and European based and styled Seven Years War engagements is one of manoeuvre - hence for me marching poses, and other less rigorous poses, really work in units. I recognise that all of these conflicts had their storming of Badajoz or the great redoubt at Borodino etc but I believe that Hat's proportions are about right for a general impression. Even the "standing at attention guy" I see as having a role. Any columular formation would have more sedentary poses for any but the front few ranks. If we were talking combat figures for, say, WWII, I would see the exact opposite applying. I have never understood why so many figure poses for these campaigns involve people standing up. I would have thought in those sort of ranges that more kneeling, crouching or lying figures would be more representative. FWIW. Neil A
Hatblogger, Thanks for the clarification of the 'Action' set, misunderstood this, I thought it meant the figures would be 'in action' not just doing 'an action'.
Not a Napoleonics fan suggest stuff that could be used across other periods too Weapons: muskets, rifles, swords, pistols Equipment: farriers hammer, pioneers axe, shovel, pick, wormer/sponge/rammer, powder scoop, bucket Impedimanta: boxes, crates, barrels, powder kegs, ammo box, musket cases, trunks, chests, strong box, valise, sacks (l&s) Detritus: broken wheel Casualties: dead horse, and last aof all dead guy (hatless * generic uniform)
As someone mentioned, Barzso has become the new Marx in regards to accessories, including sprues with weapons. If someone wanted to get accessories, I know he used to sell those separately.

I have seen requests for sets of heads.
How about spare swords, trumpets, muskets, flag and eagle poles?
How complicated would a small 3" x 6" plank bridge be? If it were done in 3" x 3: sections anyone who wanted a longer bridge could add extra sections.
chevaux de frise, gabions, dead horses, damaged cannons, dead soldiers.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A FLAG IN EACH COMMAND BOX
SET. COULD IT BE AN IDEA?
@All, "action" set is a matter of semantics. That set is supposed to be all the other soldiers who are not marching.
I like the above definition of "action".
