After seeing HaTs 1/72 Lutzow Freikorps I just had to have them. So far I have had 3 attempts at doing them.
Need a fourth attempt plus better paint work. Maybe HaT is just about to announce a set of them!!!

Anth, there are lots of figure options for these conversions, I have a few more on the paint table along with my Prussian reserve figures I,m working on. I,ll post some pics when I,m done.
I,m hoping on a larger second batch myself of both. These first few were just to test the waters and see how they look.
As far as painting goes, My best investment was a lighted magnifier and seeing my work blown up in pictures and seeing all the stuff I missed with the naked eye.
Also seeing higher end painted metal figures and trying to copy how they paint and shade the figures. Believe me, I,m no great painter either, I mess up all over on the figures but when they dry I just go back and keep touching up where I screwed up. Over time my paint jobs have improved from my earlier work.
If you don,t have one break down and get a lighted magnifier and work in a bright area with a lot of light. Take pictures of your work when your done and look at them blown up. This is where you,ll really see all your mistakes, and then when you find them go back and touch up those problem areas.
I hate painting large groups of figures speed painting. I always enjoy it more when I can take just a few figures and take my time on them. That,s always much more enjoyable.
Take your next conversion that you really like the way it came out and try and do your best paint job on it. Take a pic and see how it looks blown up and fix the mistakes you find.
Try some highlights and shading and dry brushing.
I try to think in 3 shades. I paint the figure the basic color, then add in the shading in the cracks and shaded areas and then hit all the high areas with a highlight.
I try to lighten and darken the same base color I used by adding a touch of darker or lighter tint of the same color. Adding a touch of black or white to the base color would also work but you get a better effect adding a touch of the same color but darker or lighter to the base color.
Give it a try. This works great of the face of the figures to bring them to life.
Nice work! Keep them coming Anth!!!
Wow thanks Fish that is really useful feed back. My mum brought me a lighted magnifier.Serious a 87 old woman gave me a a magnifier. That should have been all the nudge I needed.I might try taking my time and do some more on figures. I have an idea and then want to finish it then I 'm on to the next. Funnily enough I find the conversions and the painting relaxing after work.I hobby is just for me and I'm happy with the average paint jobs ...well till I started photographing them!
Well thanks I'll be trying some highlighting next:)
