For consideration

There appears to be 4 forerunners in the running that can be done with the master figures at hand:

1) Napoleonic British Infantry with stovepipe shakos.
British
These would NOT be upscaling the 1/72 set, rather the 1/32 scale figures would be cut from large sized master figures.
Pros: A sophisticated set that is highly customizable. Has batallion and elite figures, extra heads, command figures.
Cons: British sets are available.

2) Napoleonic Spanish
Light Infantry
Grenadiers
Line Infantry
Command
An extensive number of figures including all 3 branches and command. These are NOT upscaled 1/72 figures but would be newly cut from large sized masters.
Cons: Spanish already available.

3) AWI British

Pros: Large number of brand new figures.
Cons: New range, large project that is possibly unsustainable.

4) AWI American

Pros: New
Cons: Large project that is possibly unsustainable

5) 7 YW Austrians

Pro: Continues 7YW range with Austrians, includes grenadiers, fusiliers and command, marching, action sets.
Cons: None.

British or Spanish Peninsular war good choices 1808-1814. The British more versatile up to 1815 and can paint as Belgians and Portugese and Americans etc...
The only existing plastic 1/32nd Spanish sets I can recall are by Reamsa of Spain from the distant past.
Not too sure on the other sets mooted?
Interested to see what everyone else comments.
cheers

Thank you for the presentation and the opportunity to comment. Those pictures above are not very good but I have the photos to work from.

1. Nap British.
This one is interesting since while I believe it would be popular Hat has stated in the past that the masters for set 8186 were not suitable for 54mm. If this position has been reconsidered there would probably be a receptive audience for them.

The command set 8304 has some figures that would enhance sets of Line Infantry.

The AIP British have one command figure and no marching figures. The new owners of Timpo have started rumors that some of the old Action Packs will make yet another return to the market. Even if the British are among those chosen for reissue your figures are better. Both Timpo and AIP figures have the Belgaic shako.

A Call to Arms has elites but no Line infantry. And no command

Barzso’s Light infantry is resin and he is not producing anymore figures at this time.

2. Nap Spanish

These would probably do no better than the Austrians. Assuming you are using the usual six figure mold this would need two command sets and two command set and two sets of Line, making six sets.

Other than the old Reamsa set I don’t know what else is out there.

If you try them I would start with those imposing grenadiers.

3 and 4. American Revolution

These would be popular, particularly if you do what others do not do. There is a shortage of command sets and marching sets.

Barzso and A Call to Arms have nice sets of Grenadiers so you might start with the Line and Light infantry. The foot dragoons are a novelty and I would hope could be fit into the Light Infantry seta.

The cavalry has been discussed extensively elsewhere.

The artillery is well done but I think you should start with something simpler.

5. SYW Austrians

The market seems to absorb all the SYW Prussians you make. There is an interest in the SYW in both the US and Europe. It would be even better if you had the British and the French.

As with the Nap Russians, please do include the mounted officer even if you cannot do the horse.

6. The Marching French
There is not a single good set of French Line infinity on the market. They are useful in all theatre of the Napoleonic Wars. They would be a perfect addition to the French Chasseurs. Since the command set for the Bardin sets has had a misadventure the pre-Bardin troops should be the choice.

My personal preference would be the SYW Austrians but I would certainly support the ARW sets or the Nap French and British.

Napoleonic British infantry are currently available from Supreme, Call to Arms, Helmet, Victrix and Armies in Plastic, other makers now out of production but easily available on ebay or at collectors shows include: Airfix, Timpo, Deetail. A HaT offering would match in with wargamers existing HaT series of French/German troops but many will already have a British army from the makers above and may not be keen to buy and paint up another one.

Nap Spanish in bicornes and grenadiers have been made by REAMSA,they are available currently as remoulds but are not great figures. Many wargamers currently use the DSG Nap Spanish which come in shakos and bicornes made by DSG of Argentina, they are cheap and come ready painted. A HaT offering would fit in well with these especially if there were lots of extra heads/hats for conversions.

AWI are also quite well catered for by the likes of AIP, ACTA, Imex, Marx and Barzo.

7YW Austrians: apart from the grenadier caps would they be significantly different from the Prussian figures? I have already painted up several boxes of the Prussians as Austrians and they work fine for me.

Sorry if this all sounds a bit negative but I know the cost of tooling for figures is exorbitant so every set has to pay it's way and to get significant sales you'll need to tap into the relatively small but fast growing body of 54mm wargamers who will buy enough boxes to build an army rather than modelers who may only need one box.

I would support the British as almost all the exisiting British tropps are a) Light Infantry NOT line and b) the poses are poor and not tat suitable for wargaming. HAT always provide more useful poses in their sets

I would support the napoleonic British and spanish too. The only real british available are the a call to arms light infantry.

I like the 7YW Austrians, and will be getting a bunch of those. Also as someone else mentioned above, 7YW French and British would be a home run for many collectors. Anything that would fit will Barzso French & Indian war figures would sell. I would buy 10 boxes of each, right away.

I my vote would go to the Napoleonic Austrians and the French Line infantry set, shown earlier on this page. I would prefer those over an other set of Brits.

However, I am happy to see that HaT is giving the most Beautiful and fun scale an other try!! Lets hope 2017 wil bring new 54mm or 1/32 fellows!
