I just finished up getting some paint on my Bavarian command set, The flag was a bit tough and I still have to finish painting the back side center picture on it but I need a break from it and I,m not sure what I,m going to do on the back side yet? I really wish they had raised detail on it to use as a guide. Half way through I was wishing I had cut it off and glued on a paper one.
I also finished up painting a box of marching figures also. I still want to paint up another box and add a few conversions with some head conversions looking to the sides and with bandaged heads and camp caps to vary the look of the marching column.
I also need to do more artillery guys and get more action guys painted up and convert more of those, maybe some dead and wounded.
I have a few conversions already mixed in there if you can spot them? This last batch I just finished painting, I outlined in black and I think they stand out much better I think I,ll have to throw the first few I did back on the paint table and give them some black outlines also? What do you guys think? Better with or without the Black outlines???

Hi Fish .Great figures as always . I prefer the black lining on my figures, especially on the white straps . Helps to define things better I think. Theres no way Im tackling that flag !!!. Its a paper one for Me . Does it not make them a bit top heavy ? I havent cut mine off the runner yet . Cheers Martin
I'd like to get the Bavarians after I finish the Russians and I'm still waiting for the command set. I don't enough about the Bavarian as to who's side they were on. They did fight FOR the French. Did they fight against them later in the wars?
Is it possible to paint lines of a darker shade of the uniform colors to outline gear rather than black?
I've used dark blues and grays with CW/WBTS figures.
excellent work Fish
Thanks guys! Martin just glue the flag guy onto a metal washer and flock the base, you,ll have no more problems with them falling over.
A few pages back here on this blog I did a little write up with pics on how I go about basing my figures onto washers, check it out.
Scott I have tried outlining with a darker shade of the same color but I think the black really makes the figure detail pop out at you more.
On the first batch in the photos I used an off white darker bone color to highlight the straps but it dose not have the pop at you look of the second batch. I think I,ll through the first batch back on the paint table and make them match the second batch.
As for the Bavarian army? They fought with the french for most of the Napoleonic wars and I believe they jumped ship after the battle of Leipzig in the fall of 1813 and in 1814 they were invading France with all of Napoleons other allies who also jumped ship by that time.
Thanks again guys! FISH!
Very nice Fish. I tried painting that flag. So what you did is amazingly good ,I know how hard it is. The Barvarian Set from HaT is one of my Favorite in the Nap range. I like the kneeling conversion at ready postion.Post more I never do black lines just tried with a felt pen today. Not fussed either way.

Fish - I reckon that you should make some Bavarian cavalry to suit

At first I was only black lining when two light colors touched but I have noticed an improvement when even cutting dark blue or brown againt white or gold
